Goodwood Tavern just opened with a full craft cocktail menu and small plates, and on Sunday, Madison-Bouckville kicks off five days of the largest antique week in New York. Goodwood Tavern just opened in Minoa

Goodwood Tavern just opened in Minoa with a serious cocktail program, small plates, and a stated mission to put the village on the map. It's the kind of concept you'd expect to find in Skaneateles or Armory Square. The owners are betting that locals will travel east for a good drink and a curated menu.

The Utah-born "dirty soda" trend (fountain soda mixed with cream and flavored syrups) has officially landed in Central New York. Syracuse.com maps out where to find them locally. If you've been curious about the drink taking over TikTok, you no longer have to fly to Provo.

Deli in the works for vacant building on Erie Boulevard in DeWitt

A new NYC-style bodega is coming to a long-vacant building at 3350 Erie Boulevard East in DeWitt. Owner Nashwan Ahmed's plan calls for burgers, breakfast, doughnuts, and pressed juice, all made fresh. The DeWitt planning board just signed off on the change of use. Opening date has not been announced.

Water main break creates sinkhole in downtown Syracuse street

An eight-inch water main below East Jefferson Street near the Onondaga County Courthouse broke, causing the street to buckle and it opened a sinkhole. The street will remain closed to cars and pedestrian until crews can repair the road. It was the third sink hole in Syracuse in the past month.

Not good government: Onondaga County's term limit mess keeps getting messier

County Executive Ryan McMahon is proposing to put two competing term-limit questions on the 2027 ballot: one would install a three-term limit for the executive and comptroller and the other, four terms. It's his workaround after he accidentally signed an approval placing the Democrats' three-term bill on the ballot when he'd promised to veto it.

Syracuse finds long-sought location for future municipal dog shelter

After years of searching, the Syracuse city government has finally identified a site for its long-planned municipal dog shelter. The proposed location is 3614 Burnet Avenue in the East Syracuse. The new facility would replace the current shelter, which city leaders say has run out of space for stray and abandoned dogs. The new space will double their ability to house dogs.

CNY gets its first traffic garden for kids

Central New York got its first Traffic Garden this week at Santaro Park in the Town of Onondaga. It's a small-scale street network with real stop signs, yield signs, and crosswalks, built so kids can practice biking/scootering without real cars around.

Five Syracuse lacrosse players sue NCAA seeking additional eligibility

Five former SU lacrosse players (Joey Spallina, Billy Dwan, Luke Rhoa, Michael Leo, and Finn Thomson) are named plaintiffs in a Colorado lawsuit seeking a fifth year of NCAA eligibility. The suit challenges the NCAA's decision not to apply its new "5 in 5" rule retroactively to athletes whose eligibility already expired. Spallina and Dwan have since dropped out of the case. Four of the five have already signed PLL rookie contracts this summer, which raises the awkward question of what happens to those pro deals if the extra year is granted.

Schumer wades into the Apple vs. Micron fight over Chinese chips

Senator Chuck Schumer is publicly pressuring Apple to walk away from a chip deal with two Chinese memory companies on the Defense Department's PLA-linked list. Schumer gave Apple until August 21 to respond. The fight matters locally because Micron has been lobbying the White House to block Apple's move, arguing it would undercut domestic memory production.

Ferb is a one-year-old purr machine and professional biscuit maker. He was an outdoor cat until he showed up limping on his back leg. He healed beautifully, took to indoor life fast, and now greets his people with sweet, enthusiastic meows.
